Diagram, sorting and series groups

Say you have two values for each region: current month and previous month. I
have a column in datase called period_offset (0 for current month and -1 for
previous month).
I want to sort the diagram over current month, where previous month is just
for informational purposes (previous month is also colored gray, btw).
For series group, I have =Fields!period_offset.Value, and under sorting:
=Fields!period_offset.Value.
Currently, the diagram seem to sort by the previous month value (where
=Fields!period_offset.Value = -1). How can I sort by current month
(=Fields!period_offset.Value = 0) ?

in the SQL Query. When I add an ORDER BY to the query so that for each
region, that current month is returned before last month, the diagram is
sorted over the current month column.
I can change ASC/DESC in my SQL ORDER BY and the sort in the diagram changes
accordingly...
Is above assumption correct?

>|||Thanks Robert. This is in line with what I have experienced.
In this particular situation, I just couldn't get RS to sort the way I wanted...
But I did manage when combining sorting on Group/Series and in the SQL query. I'll probably stick
with what I have until I have the time to learn enough about sorting and the relation between
sorting in grouping vs. series.
I found the documentation lacking information rather severely in this area, I should add. And it
just wasn't intuitive enough for me. :-)

Yes, our UE/documentation team is working on improving the entire charting
documentation. Updates should be available on MSDN in the next few months.
Regarding sorting:
Grouping/sorting specified in the commandtext is done on the data source's
database server. Grouping/sorting/filtering defined in the RDL is done in
the RS processing engine internally.
If you specify a sort expression on group expressions in the report, the
processing engine will apply sorting. I.e. if you don't specify any explicit
collation settings on the RDL dataset, we will - in case of a live execution
against a SQL 2000 data source - determine the collation settings from the
data source. Otherwise, we will do sorting based on the culture settings of
the report.

Diagram changes

There seem to be a number of annoying little problems with the diagram tool
in sql server 2005 (and previous versions) and Im not sure if these will be
fixed by installing SP1. The annoyances are
1) I arrange tables so that none of them have scroll bars, but when I print,
some of my tables have scroll-bars on the printed output.
2) In page setup, I set page to landscape. I then arrange my tables to fit
on a single landscape page, save and print. The diagram then rearranges
itself and I end up with multiple pages each containing a small part of the
diagram.
3) Page orentation is not 'remembered' resulting in me having to re-arrange
tables when I next open the diagram
These issues do not happen all the time but when they do it is very annoying.
Are there workarounds to these problems?
Will these 'bugs' get fixed by installing sp1?

For your three issues, I reproduced the first one. My SQL Server 2005 was
installed with SP1.

I tried four times to reproduce this issue. It seemed that the scroll bars
occurred when we ajusted the border closely to the last column.

I set the orientation to landscape, save and print the diagram, but the
diagram did not rearrange.

From my test, the page orentation was remembered.
Also, I noticed that the issues rarely happened at your side, so I am not
sure if my test can prove that these issues had already been fixed in SP1.
If it persists, I recommend that you give Microsoft feedback on these
issues. Your suggestions will be routed to SQL team and the issues will be
resolved in the next release.

Developer installation fails - does not prompt for Disk 2!

I have tried this many times....cleaned all previous MS SQL installations...rebooted....all with the same result below.

I insert Disc 1 of the Developer edition and all is find until it gets to the main installation...then OWC fails ("Setup cannot find the files specified") although I have an open Internet connection from where it can be downloaded.

Then the main Database server and Integration services installation fails, and other components succeed. When I click the error message it says "Please insert Disc 2" - although the main installation never prompts for Disc 2 (which are the Tools I believe).

Even if I install Disc 2, the installation never succeeds - and the main componets I am interested in - Database server and Integration services - always fails.

I have used the developer edition with many operating systems OWC is not a requirement for installing it, I have to tell you installing SQL Server from CD is not good practice. You need to create a folder in your C drive and copy the contents of the CDs into that folder and your installation will complete because all your files are in one place. If you need OWC in your development environment you need to download that to the folder before running the installer. Hope this helps.
