I run a small network behind an ISA Server and using DHCP to assign NAT
addresses (192.168.x.x)
I have "reserved" 5 addresses for VPN access.
All seems ok, except one of my consultants set up a SQL Server and instance
of the application we support ( a web app) and had several others connect to
it.
They all appear in the DHCP Active Leases, including the "host" with valid
IP addresses, showing their MAC addresses under "Unique ID".
But the host also has several (equal to the number of connections)
additional IP addresses assigned, showing "RAS" under "Unique ID" (as the 5
reserved VPN addresses do).
They are not using RAS, that I know of.
Can anyone explain this to me and/or tell me how to stop it ?

Dallas, TexasI had the same problem too, its nothing but the users of those computers (believe you're using XP) created a connection to accept incoming calls. Once I removed those connection's, the Unique ID started showing the MAC address instead of "RAS" (like anyother computer on the network)

DHCP/SQL Problem ?

DHCP vs. Static
My SQL*Server 7 server was working fine this morning... All of a sudden
anyone that is set up using DHCP to get IP Settings can't connect to any
databases... If I change them to a static IP Address it works fine...
Can't remember the exact message but it was something along the lines of
"SQL Server not found or access denied".....
I can get the full message if required...
Sounds like the DHCP server is dispensing the wrong information, possibly
about the DNS server. The error is usually a name resoultion problem, i.e.
the client cannot resolve the server name to its network address.
After a client acquires it ip address via DHCP, run ipconfig /all form a
command prompt and compare the values with a client that has a static ip
address.

DHCP Service fails to start after installing SQL Server 2005 April CTP
I have a Windows 2003 Server SP1, Active Directory, Application Server and RIS installed on my computer. After installing SQL Server 2005 April CTP my DHCP Service fails to start. In the Event Viewer I see the following Events.
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Description: The DHCP Server service terminated with service-specific error 20013 (0x4E2D).
Event Type: Information
Event Source: Application Popup
Description: Application popup: Service Control Manager: At least one service or driver failed during system startup. Use Event Viewer to examine the event log for details.

I also have this same problem after installing the june sql server 2005 ctp. Tried restore of dhcp database. Tried to create empty database. Uninstalled service and app. Uninstalled the dhcp server and sql server 2005 and then reinstalled dhcp server and still the same problem.
I have searched everywhere and several people have had this issue, but no resolution.
The service can't start. In the event viewer, I have the following errors:

Thanks for weighing in. I found this thread from a Google search and it was way down on the list in this forum. But I can't see that anyone has ever fixed this! As soon as I posted my own problem, the topic popped up to the top of the list. That's the nice thing about this forum. So everyone who is having this problem needs to report in. This will keep this at the top of the list and hopefully get Microsoft's attention. They really need to fix this.
Workaround tip: This may be a *duh* or this may not be obvious to you; I didn't realize this solution at first. If you're connected to the Internet via a Router/Switch, it is possible that the router device can provide DHCP services for you. My LinkSys CableModem router provides DHCP, so I'm OK personally, but Microsoft really should fix this.

This issue is because setup creates wrong default registry value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\VssAccessControl. To fix DHCP service just delete VssAccessControl registry key.

I have also same problem (errors) but i didn't install sql server 2005. There is no "VssAccessControl" registery key under the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\"
I can't understand why this happened and I could not found a solution...

This software had always worked fine before on this system and the only changed I can tie this too are the critical updates released last week.|||

I also have this same problem after installing the june sql server 2005 ctp. Tried restore of dhcp database. Tried to create empty database. Uninstalled service and app. Uninstalled the dhcp server and sql server 2005 and then reinstalled dhcp server and still the same problem.
I have searched everywhere and several people have had this issue, but no resolution.

Thanks for weighing in. I found this thread from a Google search and it was way down on the list in this forum. But I can't see that anyone has ever fixed this! As soon as I posted my own problem, the topic popped up to the top of the list. That's the nice thing about this forum. So everyone who is having this problem needs to report in. This will keep this at the top of the list and hopefully get Microsoft's attention. They really need to fix this.
Workaround tip: This may be a *duh* or this may not be obvious to you; I didn't realize this solution at first. If you're connected to the Internet via a Router/Switch, it is possible that the router device can provide DHCP services for you. My LinkSys CableModem router provides DHCP, so I'm OK personally, but Microsoft really should fix this.

This issue is because setup creates wrong default registry value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\VssAccessControl. To fix DHCP service just delete VssAccessControl registry key.

I can't understand why this happened and I could not found a solution...

I have also same problem (errors) but i didn't install sql server 2005. There is no "VssAccessControl" registery key under the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\"
I can't understand why this happened and I could not found a solution...

I have a Windows 2003 Server SP1, Active Directory, Application Server and RIS installed on my computer. After installing SQL Server 2005 April CTP my DHCP Service fails to start. In the Event Viewer I see the following Events.
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Description: The DHCP Server service terminated with service-specific error 20013 (0x4E2D).
Event Type: Information
Event Source: Application Popup
Description: Application popup: Service Control Manager: At least one service or driver failed during system startup. Use Event Viewer to examine the event log for details.

I also have this same problem after installing the june sql server 2005 ctp. Tried restore of dhcp database. Tried to create empty database. Uninstalled service and app. Uninstalled the dhcp server and sql server 2005 and then reinstalled dhcp server and still the same problem.
I have searched everywhere and several people have had this issue, but no resolution.
The service can't start. In the event viewer, I have the following errors:

Thanks for weighing in. I found this thread from a Google search and it was way down on the list in this forum. But I can't see that anyone has ever fixed this! As soon as I posted my own problem, the topic popped up to the top of the list. That's the nice thing about this forum. So everyone who is having this problem needs to report in. This will keep this at the top of the list and hopefully get Microsoft's attention. They really need to fix this.
Workaround tip: This may be a *duh* or this may not be obvious to you; I didn't realize this solution at first. If you're connected to the Internet via a Router/Switch, it is possible that the router device can provide DHCP services for you. My LinkSys CableModem router provides DHCP, so I'm OK personally, but Microsoft really should fix this.

This issue is because setup creates wrong default registry value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\VssAccessControl. To fix DHCP service just delete VssAccessControl registry key.|||It worked! Thanks a lot.

a SQL database. The DHCP database is in windows/system32/dhcp I believe.
The idea is to have a web interface which access the SQL database with some
PHP programming. The SQL database gets the data from the DHCP server and all
the changes made, with the webinterface, on to the SQL database is updated
on the DHCP.
Has anyone tried this before and is it possible?
