Did it really successfully install?

SQL 7 Standard on Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP2. I just installed =
SQL Server 7 on the server and although the installer ended successfully =
I have this in the sqlstp.log:
20:44:13 C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~3\Common\IDE\IDE98\sqldbreg.exe -RegServer
20:44:13 Process Exit Code: (-2147312566) Error loading type =
library/DLL.
....
20:44:16 Installation Succeeded
Should I fix this and if so how? Thanks.
I looked to see if I have the file sqldbreg.exe and I do. It is in =
Microsoft Visual Studio 6\Common\...

This sounds like the installer had an issue registring the sql debuger
utility integrated with your Visual Studio instalation. This should affect
the SQL Server installation but might keep you from properly using the
debuging tools.
I would service pack your SS7 installation and then service pack your VS
installations.

DHCP Service fails to start after installing SQL Server 2005 April CTP

I have a Windows 2003 Server SP1, Active Directory, Application Server and RIS installed on my computer. After installing SQL Server 2005 April CTP my DHCP Service fails to start. In the Event Viewer I see the following Events.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Description: The DHCP Server service terminated with service-specific error 20013 (0x4E2D).

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Application Popup
Description: Application popup: Service Control Manager: At least one service or driver failed during system startup. Use Event Viewer to examine the event log for details.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DhcpServer
Description: The DHCP service is shutting down due to the following error: The service has returned a service-specific error code.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DhcpServer
Description: The DHCP service failed to restore the database. The following error occurred: An error occurred while accessing the DHCP database. Look at the
DHCP server event log for more information on this error.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DhcpServer
Description: The following problem occurred with the Jet database -1811: Jet database read or write operations failed. If the computer or database has just been upgraded, then this message can be safely ignored. If this message appears frequently, either there is not enough disk space to complete the operation or the database or backup database may be corrupt. To correct this problem, either free additional space on your hard disk or restore the database. After you restore the database, ensure that conflict detection is enabled in DHCP server properties. I also have this same problem after installing the june sql server 2005 ctp. Tried restore of dhcp database. Tried to create empty database. Uninstalled service and app. Uninstalled the dhcp server and sql server 2005 and then reinstalled dhcp server and still the same problem.

I have searched everywhere and several people have had this issue, but no resolution.
The service can't start. In the event viewer, I have the following errors:

|||Oh, great. I'm having this issue too. It must be. I installed the SQL Server CTP a few weeks ago, didn't like it very much and uninstalled. Now I'm trying to install DHCP Server and I can't. I get the same error messages in the EventLog which you describe.

Thanks for weighing in. I found this thread from a Google search and it was way down on the list in this forum. But I can't see that anyone has ever fixed this! As soon as I posted my own problem, the topic popped up to the top of the list. That's the nice thing about this forum. So everyone who is having this problem needs to report in. This will keep this at the top of the list and hopefully get Microsoft's attention. They really need to fix this.

Workaround tip: This may be a *duh* or this may not be obvious to you; I didn't realize this solution at first. If you're connected to the Internet via a Router/Switch, it is possible that the router device can provide DHCP services for you. My LinkSys CableModem router provides DHCP, so I'm OK personally, but Microsoft really should fix this.

This issue is because setup creates wrong default registry value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\VssAccessControl. To fix DHCP service just delete VssAccessControl registry key.

This software had always worked fine before on this system and the only changed I can tie this too are the critical updates released last week.

I have also same problem (errors) but i didn't install sql server 2005. There is no "VssAccessControl" registery key under the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\"

I can't understand why this happened and I could not found a solution...

I dont know what should i do...

Is anyone familiar with a way to have a Windows 2003 DHCP server log to an
SQL server?
Can you elaborate on your requirements? Of course if the server is on the
network, with proper authentication this is possible.

Developing a Windows Authentication Security Model

I would like to use Windows Authentication for SQL Server 2005. I'm just no
w
trying to determine how this will work in our environment. Here are some of
my requirements.
- A given users may have different right in the each environment
(Development, QA, and production.
- A user will gain access to sql server via ione or more Domain Groups
- Do not want to change security permissions on a database when migrating it
from one environment to another.
So my real problem is how can a single windows account (user) have different
rights on say database ABC for each environment and meet the above
requirements.
Ok let's say our user is named "domain\user1" and they need to following
access in each environment:
Select, insert, update, and delete permissions on table ABC.dbo.MyTable in
development.
Select, update permissions on table ABC.dbo.MyTable in QA
Select only permissions on table ABC.dbo.MyTable in Production.
So my questions is how do I define one or more windows group that
"domain\user1" would be a member so when I assign the windows group to a SQL
and grant them access to a database that the access changes depending on the
environment for which the database is being accessed?

Developer Edition / Desktop Edition

I'm developing a windows (c#) application that currently uses SQL 2000. I've
developed the app using Developer Edition on my laptop.
The requirements of the app, are such that when the user is not at the
office, they can still use the application on thier laptop, but use a local
copy of the database. So I thought..ok just provide Desktop Edition with the
application.
Can I install Desktop Edition on my development machine with out messing up
the Developer Edition installation? What I'm concerned with is hosing my
currently installed DE.
As part of the application, I want the user to be able to use a Desktop
version of the database so when not at the office, the user can still use th

The short answer is yes you can do this. Is Developer Edition currently
installed as the default instance? If so, MSDE would have to be a named
instance. Honestly, I've never had a need to do this, so I'm not 100% sure
about exact installation needs. But I know 100% it is supported. You'll find

Developer Edition & Express Edition

Can you install both of these on the same Windows XP Pro computer? If I don't want to install the Express Edition what is the best way to make an application developed with Express Edition work with Developer Edition?

If someone could point to some articles or documents that explains this in detail I would really appreciate it.

Express and Developer can install side-by-side. Application should be developed Edition agnostic. However, there is a feature in Express (User Instances) that is not available in other Editions. Keep an eye on MSDN for new content.

I have Small Business Server 2003 and am teaching myself VB.Net. I purchased
the package Visual Basic Step By Step and put it on the server hoping to ac
cess the SQL Server on the server PC. But VB Step by Step won't recognize th
e SQL Server that came with
Small Business Server 2003. If I purchased the Developer's Edition of SQL Se
rver, could I put it on my server or would I have to move VB to my desktop P
C, put SQL Server DE on the desktop machine and work from there?

VB.NET can see your SBS SQL Server on the local machine as well as across
the network. How are you trying to access the SQL Server? My initial guess
is that you are probably having a security issue.
Try opening a new windows application.
Open the Form
Drag & Drop a SQLConnection Object and follow the wizard.
While in the wizard, use the Trusted Connection option.
